In this article I want to give you the current activities about cloud computing that are happening around the globe. If you are new to cloud please download and read this article first. It’s free.
You have been using cloud if you are using email account on free email service providers like Gmail, yahoo etc. It is already been a long time we are using cloud in terms of software as a services. The advancement in the Internet and web technology has lead computing in more sophisticated and remote environment. In cloud, you can use the whole IT infrastructure as a service. The need of additional hardware, software or even the OS keep in another side, take the service as much as you require. Whenever you don’t need the service you can leave the contract. After that there are no more expenses from your side. If your computation is in the cloud, all the risk of hardware and security is not your problem. You can just use the service pay per-use basis. The most important thing is virtualization that you can easily achieve. Operating system shift in the server or making the computation more powerful keeping lower level grid, all can be done in a small pay.
The cloud has already been taken its way and many venders are providing cloud services. Google AppEngine let you whatever program you want. Likewise Amazon’s Elastic compute cloud offers you full Linux machine with root access and the opportunity to run whatever application you want. The global IT bigwigs are vying to take the largest market share. Google already started to provide the developer’s certification for cloud environment whereas Microsoft President Stephen Elop says the cloud has created a “constructive disruption,” in the market, creating an opportunity to offer Microsoft Office on the Web at no cost. The first mover’s advantage is going ahead on the side of Amazon.com, salesforce.com, Google, VMware, Sun micro-system, IBM. Amazon has been providing simple Storage Service (S3) as Infrastructure (here storage) as a service, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) as platform as a service. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Sales force.com is emerging ahead with a slogan “Say good-bye to hardware and complicated software. Force.com runs in the cloud. Just log in, build your app, and share it with the world.” Google AppEngine is already in cloud from Google but it is limited in Python and Google provided database. Microsoft has thrown its cloud service operating system platform windows Azure platform as the development, service hosting and service management environment. It provides on demand compute and storage to host, scale and manages web applications on the internet through Microsoft datacenter. IBM Smart Business also providing the development, testing and deployment environment on the cloud. Sun microsystem is working on both Public as well as Private Cloud. They have been provided many tools for the developer as well as cloud client. VMware has its cloud named as Vcloud which is providing Virtual Data Centre Operating System (VDC-OS) and VMwares VCloud API.
The real cloud has been implemented in US Defense Department far more secure and stable than commercial cloud services. US Defense Department just put their cloud computing services for military personnel. The platform called RACE (Rapid Access computing Environment) is providing more stable and secure environment.
Though there is a big play of key IT players to take a big stock of cloud and Cloud is not the new thing there are lots of challenges ahead. The most important thing in this regard is the increasing demand of Bandwidth. Also the problem of data security, load balancing are the technical issues to manage which requires more research in the future. If one client wants to change its cloud service then the whole data should be transferred through the web which is difficult and that creates the logical data lock situation. The anytime availability of the internet and web is another big challenge. Data security and integrity are all depend upon the services offered by cloud provider. If almost all things happen on the web then the demand of heterogeneous requirement of the bandwidth and its management is the another problem. The corner of the problem is the utility, service pricing and its management. There will be the diverse demand of services. So to handle this situation proper and reliable systems should be developed to manage and monitor.
Even though there are lots of challenge and many things to do, cloud has already paved its way and it has become inevitable. The cloud camper’s are on the move to exchange ideas, knowledge and information in a creative and supporting environment, advancing the current state of cloud computing and related technologies ( http://cloudcamp.org/mission). The future of IT is supposed as a utility service like just the use of electricity or telephone. Use it and pay per use. It seems this had lead to the convergence of IT to Bigwig IT companies and rest of the world will use their service.
